[1] Interim Fix for 10.4.8 Math Issues
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Last week we announced our intention to create a workaround in 4D 2004.5 for rounding and truncation issues in 4D on the Mac OS X 10.4.8 Intel platform. We are still committed to this course of action. In the meantime, we are very happy to announce that, by working with Apple, we have created an interim solution. Together, Apple and 4D have created a patch which rolls back the mathematical changes Apple made in Mac OS X 10.4.8. This patch will alleviate the issues which many of you saw on the Intel platform under Mac OS X 10.4.8.
The side effect of this patch is that it rolls back math operations to those of Mac OS X 10.4.7. Some of you may recall that there were some mathematical issues on this version of the OS as well; however, those issues were much less severe and affected an extremely small percentage of 4D applications. If your application worked well on 10.4.7, you should have no issues when applying this patch.
We are certifying this fix for the 4D 2004 product line. After extensive testing, we've found no side effects other than the one mentioned here. In addition, we have performed limited testing with the 4D 2003 product line, and the patch appears to be successful there as well. However, as 4D 2003 is not certified to run on the Mac Intel platform, we are not certifying this patch with the 4D 2003 product line.
Our goal is still to release 4D 2004.5 in the shortest timeframe to ensure a complete resolution to this issue, but this solution should alleviate the issue until 2004.5 goes live. We want to thank Apple for their commitment to and support of the 4D Community, and to thank you for your patience and support during this process.
